The new display is the most vivid Retina display yet and allows the user to interact using Multi-Touch. The iPad Pro has an optional Smart Keyboard that is portable, thin, and doubles as a screen cover. The Apple Pencil is incredibly precise – responsive to tilt and pressure and easily paired with the device. Weighing just under a pound, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro is extremely portable, making it ideal for use in the classroom environment.

Surface Pro 4

Microsoft Surface Pro 4 offers the versatility of a laptop and tablet with a full suite of desktop software and weighing in at only 1.69 pounds. The device boasts a 6th Gen Intel Core processor and up to a 9 hour battery life. The Surface Pen is easy to write with high precision and can replace pen and paper in the classroom. HP Chromebook G4

The HP Chromebook G4 combines processing power with affordability. With an 11.6” display and an Intel Celeron processor, the device is portable and effectively manages battery power. The device boasts enhanced visual connections with an optional IPS panel, and Chrome OS creates an easy to manage platform with automatic software updates and virus protection. At an affordable price point, it’s no wonder that the HP Chromebook is a popular choice for K-12 deployments nationwide.

Another very popular 11.6” Chromebook, the Lenovo N21 Chromebook is built with durability in mind for the classroom environment. It is drop resistant from up to 2.3 feet, has reinforced ports that prevent objects from getting stuck, and has a water resistant keyboard to prevent liquid damage to the device. With an Intel Celeron Dual Core processor and up to 9.5 hours of battery life, the Lenovo N21 Chromebook is designed to work all day in the classroom.

Acer Chromebook

The Acer Chromebook comes in two display sizes, 11.6” and 13.3”, and has enough power to last all day, or 13 hours, on a single charge. With a full HD display and wireless speeds that are up to three times faster than previous generations, the Acer Chromebook creates a seamless computing experience. It also has a touch screen that allows you to surf and edit with the touch of a finger.

Dell Chromebook 11

The Dell Chromebook 11 is designed for the digital classroom, with features like a sealed keyboard for spill protection, rubberized LCD and base trim designed to hold up in backpacks, and a MilSpec (Military Standard) rating for durability, pressure, temperature, humidity, shock, and vibration. It features a 180-degree hinge, allowing the screen to lay flat and an interactive LED light on the back of the display so the teacher can see if the students have questions or even conduct classroom polls. Upcoming Entrepreneur Unplugged: Barefoot Ted Ask yourself what makes you come alive and then go do that.

Entrepreneur Unplugged Recap: Barefoot Ted McDonald Missed the last Brenthaven Entrepreneur Unplugged Event? Here’s the Recap.

Brenthaven had the pleasure to host “Barefoot” Ted McDonald, founder of Luna Sandals and pioneer of Solowheel Seattle, at its last Entrepreneur Unplugged event. The room was filled with fans of barefoot running, the Solowheel, entrepreneurs looking for advice, and everyone in between. Throughout his talk, Ted spoke about his inspiration for going after his dream, what it means to be him to be an entrepreneur, and lessons learned along the way.

Ted believes entrepreneurship begins when you have a hankering inside of you and need to see it expressed in the world. He was inspired by Howard Thurman, who once said, “Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” He asked the audience, “What makes us come alive? What problem is it that we want to solve? We must have the courage to go and do that. That is the core of an entrepreneur.”

Self-experimentation is at the heart of Ted’s philosophy. He believes that everyone is unique and by being a self-experimenter, you have the opportunity to become an expert on yourself. By becoming an expert on yourself you can develop a strategy that makes you better in this world. One of Ted’s problems was that he wanted to learn how to run well. This prompted him to research the human body and its capacities which led him to the “barefoot running” theory, something he was doing growing up in California without even realizing. After investigating footwear in different cultures and natural selection in footwear, he went down to the canyons and became friends with Manuel Luna. This is where he learned how to make, wear and run in the sandals that would soon become his trademark sandal and start of Luna Sandals.

If you’re in the Seattle area and would like to attend the next Entrepreneur Unplugged event, make sure to sign up for the Brenthaven newsletter to stay up-to-date!

Entrepreneur Unplugged Recap: David Niu Missed the Brenthaven Entrepreneur Unplugged Event? Here’s the Recap.

David Niu is a passionate serial entrepreneur, angel investor, and Founder of TINYhr. David graduated from UC Berkeley with Distinction and received his MBA (or as he calls it, “Managers by Accident”) from The Wharton School. David was the youngest recipient of the prestigious Woodrow Wilson Fellowship and has received the Puget Sound Business Journal “40 Under 40” award. Prior to TINYhr, David co-founded BuddyTV in 2005 and NetConversions in 1999 which was then sold to aQuantive “AQNT” in 2004.

After burning out as a serial entrepreneur, David decided to take a “careecation” and sell everything, buy a one-way tickets to New Zealand for his wife, infant daughter and himself. For six months, they traveled around countries such as New Zealand and Seoul and at the same, David interviewed entrepreneurs throughout the trip. During this time, he interviewed and learned from other entrepreneurs from around the world on best practices and pain points when it came to people management, culture and leadership.

After he returned, David focused on what he learned from these business owners to develop TINYhr’s first solution- TINYpulse.

Here are some of the questions that followed David’s talk at the Brenthaven Entrepreneur Unplugged event.

How long did your “careercation” last?

It lasted about six months. We wanted to go for about 6 – 12 months but unfortunately I got sick and it prevented us from extending our trip. However, in that time I got so excited after doing so many interviews that I found that I knew what I wanted to do next for my next startup which is what ultimately inspired me down the journey to start TINYpulse.

Did you go on this vacation with a list of people you wanted to interview?

We would just go to places and I would look up folks to interview. I didn’t plan it beforehand. I liked interviewing local people so I could also get the lay of the land.

How do you see the role of human resources and how is it changing?

I believe that human resources in the past was about letting employees know what they can’t do and preventing the company from getting lawsuits. It was all about keeping the company safe rather than focusing on the employees. Now it should be about inspirations… About what you CAN do as an individual and what you can do to better the company.

Can you describe the different cultures and their approach to entrepreneurship and how it varied across the counties you went to?

What I found out was that there were more similarities than differences. Managing people is hard, and it doesn’t matter where you are. One area that really stood out was realizing that the US and its employment practices are much more lax and fluid than our overseas brethren.

Dell XPS 13 Device Review See what makes the Dell XPS 13 one of the best laptops of 2015

Since hitting the market late last year, the Dell XPS 13 has garnered positive reviews and has already topped multiple tech publications’ best laptops of 2016 list. With its lightweight compact design, high-resolution screen and serious processing power, it’s no surprise this 13-inch laptop has quickly become a favorite in the tech industry.

Although the Dell XPS 13 has been a top contender for the past few years, Dell wanted to upgrade the customer favorite by adding a 6th generation Intel Skylake processor, Thunderbolt 3 port and a higher-capacity battery. These new enhancements makes this Dell laptop faster than ever and remains one of the best potable laptops on the market.

One feature that has critics talking about is the nearly borderless “infinity” screen, which is a little bit larger than that of systems with the same footprint. It boasts a bright, colorful display while still having an impressive 12 hour battery life. This long battery life is also a feature that excited many customers as it puts the XPS 13 in MacBook Air territory.

The negative reviews of the Dell XPS 13 included an awkwardly placed webcam and no Windows Hello support, both of which might be small trade offs in the grand scheme of what you’re getting.

If you have bought a Dell XPS 13 or are currently thinking about it, ensure maximum protection of your new device with Brenthaven cases for Dell XPS 13, including Dell XPS 13 sleeves, messenger bags, briefcases and backpacks.
